As mentioned, I have been out of the 'industry' for several months now. But I have said before, and will say again, the worst time to work in a restaurant is Mother's Day, followed by New Years Eve. It's amateur hour.. people who take their 'girls' out for a night and buy expensive food but have no clue how to pronounce the wine they are ordering. Or sometimes not even being able to pronounce the food they want. No, sir, "Salmon Rushdie" is not on tonight's menu..

I am not going out this year. My wife and I are going to cook dinner at home, crack open a bottle of nice wine, and watch the ball drop ... if we make it. Our son goes to bed around 9 .. he wakes up by 6am. So it may be best for us to catch the Zs and avoid TVs.

When  I worked the restaurant scene on New Years Eve, I always felt like I was out. After all, it's a fun night for staff.. They get to watch the cocktails get slammed back by jerks and morons who can't handle them.. The bartender never had a good time, though. That is, unless the bartender also enjoyed getting those jerks and morons drunk off their touches...

So I am wondering.. will you be heralding in the new year in a tuxedo as a customer, a worker, or perhaps just sticking at home..?

Please comment. I'd love to know.
